We live in a globalized world with different cultures, nationalities, languages, genders, sexual orientations, and races. Research has identified two future skills as cross-cultural competency and social intelligence. Yet, these soft skills are not taught, nor prioritized in organizations of all kinds. Why? Often our own fears of how to engage with different people get in the way, as well as a fear of losing our club’s traditions, culture, and ethos if we were to diversify our membership base. A better understanding of what Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) means for us as club management professionals, as employers, and as team leaders can help unlock huge value both internally (team cohesion, engagement, and innovation) and externally (increasing membership and catering to growing needs). Explore what EDI means within society, the current context of a world divided, and what it means for our club members and staff.
